Handmade Wedding at the Barn at Second Wind

Christine and Mike wanted their wedding to be "low-key and simple" and called on their friends and family to help bring their vision to life. What guests found when they arrived at the The Barn at Second Wind, a beautiful little spot on the Sacramento River Delta, was anything but plain.

The warm spring day allowed them to fully utilize the grounds: lawn games, a fire pit, ceremony under a gigantic oak tree, and an outdoor dance floor under the bistro lights. Christine and Mike's families contributed to the favors: Tiger Sauce from Mike's native Louisiana, handmade magnets, and an assortment of beautifully decorated cookies from Christine's family and brought over from the Philippines. Wood fire pizzas paired with local craft beer on tap. You can't really go wrong with that combo, can you? Christine even threw an apron over her dress to top her own pizza with her husband!

Fashion-forward Oakland Garden Wedding

Alysha and Yonatan were absolutely set on an elopement... until a friend offered the garden in Alysha's Oakland home away from home. The vision immediately materialized: mac and cheese from Homeroom, pies from Three Babes, golden hour photos in the cemetery, dancing at the Starline. They'd combine their favorite spots and their favorite people. On a Thursday, because it would be their 10 year anniversary.

With the logistics settled, is it any surprise to learn Alysha's favorite part of the wedding planning process was dress shopping? The pair seriously work it, bringing runway to the streets of MacArthur.

When Alysha arrived at the top of the aisle and charmingly announced she had forgotten to bring her bouquet with her, she set the tone that this would not be a formal, stuffy affair. While family watched via Facetime from Australia, the couple shared personal readings, a knot ceremony as a nod to Yoyo's Australian fishing heritage, and unique vows that provided glimpses into their relationship: lots of cooking, lots of dancing, love for dinosaurs, bikes, and each other.

Maternity Session at Montalvo Arts Center

Five years ago this week, Ashley and Adam had an elegant springtime wedding in the garden at Montalvo Arts Center. As they prepare to welcome their first child, it seemed like the perfect excuse to go back and enjoy this beautiful property! Between the pillars and that flowy wrap dress, this beautiful mama is totally channelling a Greek goddess of motherhood, right?

Medieval Marries Modern: A Chateau-Inspired Shoot at Folktale Winery

Newly owned and renovated, Folktale, from the beginning, wowed us. Vintage books, hammered tabletops, a resplendent chandelier, warm cream walls, and a grand fireplace seemed to whisper, This is it. French contemporary meets Gothic, meets California coast. Our minds immediately drifted to images from Game of Thrones and the idea of medieval marrying modern. It inspired a certain mood, as well: a little darker, less traditional bride. With edge. Hope you enjoy. See more on Burnett’s Boards.
